A missed game, a new league…

Wow.  I actually missed a game yesterday.  Not like I’m glued to the television whenever a baseball game is on, but yesterday I didn’t even know an Angels game was taking place.  This is attributable to two facts:  First, it’s the Kansas City Royals.  They’re quite easy to miss.

Second, it was my anniversary.

It doesn’t seem like it’s been two years since I got married, but time it does fly…

It should also be noted that this week saw the start of the Israeli Baseball League.  Baseball has become firmly entrenched in North America, South America, and Asia with great success, but Europe, Africa, and Eurasia have been deserts where our beautiful flower has never taken root.  (A great article on opening day can be read here, and it’s quite obvious the Israelis haven’t had much experience with baseball writers, either.) I have decided to become a Beit Shemesh Blue Sox fan, simply because they have the coolest uniform.

I wish them the best of luck, and hope that this league finds success and that the Middle East can learn to love our sport.  And who knows, maybe one daythere will be a Palestinian League.  Would that make an interesting championship series…
